Building A Bunker
Have you ever seen old spy movies where huge top secret laboratories underground and told yourself that you that you would like one of your own? Bunkers always have a sense of cool factor and secure factor attached to them. Bunkers can protect you can your family from man made and natural disasters. It is always nice to know that you have a place where you can go to be yourself and no one knows about it. Bunkers are adult version of places which children find around the house like under the bed or under the in the woods. You could create bunkers of your own under your own house or in a more secure location. They can help you from natural disasters such as tornadoes, floods, forest fires and earth quakes. If nothing, then you could at least use your bunker as a storage space for important things.
Creating bunkers is a little tougher than constructing houses since factors such as the weight of the house above and the weight of the sand crushing from all sides needs to be nulled. If you think about creating a bunker, it is best that you build your bunkers walls with bricks instead of concrete. Concrete is both expensive and has problems such as leaking and cracking because of expansion and contraction. Bricks on the other hand are sand themselves and expand and contract with the surrounding material. To support the brick walls, use sand bags on the other side. These will ensure strong posts. Cover the walls with polythene covering on both sides so that your bunker stays leak proof for a longer period. On the roof you can use some kind of vapor proofing sheet to avoid moisture from coming in. After a vapor proof sheeting, you can place logs on wooden logs or steel rods to support the weight of the house on top.
