First aids:
In such situations, call your local emergency medical helpline numbers to get immediate help. In the interim, the emergency aids which can be applied on spot to cardiac arrest patients include:
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR): This is a manual pressurizing mechanism applied over the heart area to drive oxygenated blood into the heart & thereby to different organs of body including brain. The rate of CPR should be at least 100 chest compressions per 60 seconds.
Mouth to mouth respiration: This method should be applied by laying down the patient on a bed, stretcher or lap. Simultaneously, you should hold the back of his neck with one hand & lift his head keeping the chin in a higher position than head. In this position, exhale air into his mouth for prolonged period with considerable pressure such that the air reaches his lungs.
These first aid processes will sustain his heartbeat till medical help arrives.
